SECURITY
We advise you to keep your valuables in the safe provided in your home.
When you leave the home, even if for a short walk on the beach, it is your responsibility to:
1. lock valuables in the safe
2. lock all windows and doors
3. take your keys with you
Throughout the night, we provide night security; one of our staff in turns, makes rounds of the homes, the beach, and the property. Our night security staff wear white, long-sleeve t-shirts with "SECURITY" stamped in black lettering on the front, back and sleeves.
2
HOUSE KEYS
Each home is provided with a set of keys which you will find on the kitchen table.
On the keychain are:
1) a circular tab which opens the Rancho San Eric gate from the street
2) the key for the front door of your home
3) the key to your safe
IMPORTANT
Please leave all keys on the kitchen table upon check out. We will charge 50 USD for each unreturned key / gate tab.
3
MAIN GATE
FROM THE STREET
Open the gate with the circular tab that’s attached to your house key chain. Hold the tab close to the keypad located on a wooden stick planted into the ground on the driver’s side (left side), just before the gate. The gate will open slowly and will close automatically after 30 seconds.
If you have any trouble, ring the doorbell located on the wooden part of the gate and our staff will open the gate for you.
FROM INSIDE RANCHO SAN ERIC
Open the gate by pressing the switch located on a wooden stick planted into the ground on the driver’s side (left side), just before the gate.
4
AIR CONDITIONING
The air conditioning units are only operational when the generator is turned on, from 8 pm - 9 am. If the AC does not turn on automatically, please use the remote control provided to do so. The AC units start up at 8 pm in the same state they were in when the generator shut down at 9 am.
5
LAUNDRY
There is no washer / dryer on the property, but you're welcome to send your laundry out with the service we use for the bed and bath linens. The average charge for a load is about 150 MXN.
Put all your laundry in a bag and give it to our staff the night before pick up (no pick up on Sundays). You'll get the laundry back the day after pick up, with the receipt stapled to the bag. Please give the payment for the laundry to our staff.
Please take note that you shouldn't send anything that's delicate or needs special care as they basically put everything into the washer, and then into the dryer, fold it and bag it.
6
HOUSEKEEPING
Every day, our staff will drop by to make the beds, sweep, take out the trash and check on the supply of purified (bottled) water in the dispenser in the kitchen, replacing it if necessary.
Every day, all beach towels are changed.
Every second day, all bath towels and bed linens are changed.
7
TIPPING
Tips are not included in the rental of Casa Dunia. Stefan will give you a more specific breakdown when you are here, but on the average, a group of 10 would tip out a total of about 120 USD per day for all the staff (housekeeping + kitchen).

MEDICAL SERVICES
Doctor Salvador (whatsapp): +52 984 114 9844
He charges approximately 120 USD for a house visit, not including medication or other services. He works with many hotels, so you may have to wait before he is available to visit.
CostaMed Tulum: located at the beginning of Tulum town. 24-hour emergency room. English speaking staff. Small, but has all the amenities / services of a modern general hospital. Phone: +52 (984) 124 0830
Hospital Tulum is located at the southern end of Tulum downtown. Passing HSBC, you'll see a "Subway" on the left. On right, further south by about a block, you'll see the Hospital Tulum. There is always a doctor on call. Phone: +52 (984) 871 2271
Red Cross (at the Fire / Police Stations) is fine for minor ailments.
Hospiten, at the southern end of Playa del Carmen, is about an hour's drive away, but is larger, professional and reliable -- better for major ailments.

BICYCLE + SCOOTER RENTAL
We suggest that you arrive and have a look at the state of the beach road before renting bicycles. The Tulum beach road is a narrow road with potholes in many places. It has no bike path, and in some parts, no sidewalk — so the road is shared by pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcycles, scooters, cars and trucks. Many times there is loose gravel and sand on the road making biking and scootering dangerous.
If you would like to go ahead and rent bicycles or scooters, iBike Tulum is bicycle and scooter rental company that will drop off / pick up for a fee: https://ibiketulum.com
Please note that you must be present when bicycles and scooters are delivered / returned.
11
TAXIS
FOR AROUND TULUM BEACH AND TULUM TOWN
The fastest and least expensive way to get a taxi is to walk out the gate of Rancho San Eric, and back up the beach road (to the north), where there are taxis waiting on the street normally around Casa Malca and Nomade Tulum (approximately a 3-minute walk).
Please note that some taxi drivers have become increasingly aggressive, quoting a rate that is higher than the rates published by the taxi syndicate, or even increasing the price when already on the way to a destination.
Please check with Stefan what the official rates are.
Always determine the rate for your trip before stepping into the taxi.
Have cash to pay with (Mexican pesos better than US dollars)

PRIVATE TAXI DRIVER
TO RETURN TO THE AIRPORT, OR TO SIGHTSEE FOR A DAY: small group, up to 7 passengers with no luggage (taxi, Toyota Avanza)
We have a trusted taxi driver, Amilcar, with whom we've worked for years, available if you need transportation back to Cancun airport, or if you'd like to sightsee for a day. He'll pick you up at Rancho San Eric, wait for you at each stop, and return you to Rancho San Eric afterwards.
If you'd like to schedule Amilcar to 1) take you back to Cancun Airport, please let Stefan know your pick up date + time, and how many people he'll be driving ... or 2) drive you around to sightsee, please let Stefan know an approximate itinerary (a popular one is Coba ruins, lunch, and a cenote), the date and pick up time, and the number of people in the group.
Please note that Amilcar is not a tour operator -- he only does the driving, so you'd have to purchase your own entrance tickets, arrange for guides, purchase meals, etc.
13
PRIVATE VAN + CHAUFFEUR
AIRPORT TRANSFERS, DAY TRIPS
Some groups choose to hire a private van with chauffeur for airport transfers and day trips. Miguel Ángel's van seats 10 passengers (with luggage) or 14 passengers (no luggage).

IN-HOUSE MASSAGE
We have been working with Claudia Avendaño (massage therapist) for many years now, having come highly recommended from some of the homeowners of Rancho San Eric. She is well-versed in many different techniques (please see her full menu below), and will come to the home with all her equipment -- all you have to do is relax! She does tend to get booked up quickly, so we advise you to make an appointment ahead of time:
Cellular (whatsapp messages work best): +52 984 105 2953
E-mail: gemaclau@yahoo.com.mx
Webpage (full massage menu): https://www.tulumyst.com/healthandbalance
Or ask Hui or Stefan to make an appointment for you.

EL GRAN CENOTE on the right side of the highway 109 towards Coba (5 minutes out of Tulum town) and is one of the most spectacular (and commercial) cenotes in the area with both an open section, as well as caverns of stalagmites and stalactites. Buy tickets online to skip lines: http:// grancenote.com
CENOTE CALAVERA meaning "skull" is right before El Gran Cenote on highway 109 (going towards Coba). It is a cavern with one large opening (mouth) and two small openings (eyes) which are great for jumping through into the water. If you prefer not to jump, use the ladder to go down to the water. Not suitable for small children.
CENOTES CRISTAL & ESCONDIDO are two minutes south of Tulum town on highway 307. Bring snorkel and mask, and floats for the kids. Drive into Cenote Cristal on the right, off highway 307. Pay (one ticket gains you entry to BOTH cenotes), take a look and then ask for the gate to be opened to Cenote Escondido. Get back into the car and drive across highway 307 to the entrance of Cenote Escondido. Once they open the gate, drive in until you come to a parking lot. It’s then a short walk to the cenote
CENOTE CORAZON is an intimate, quietly stunning open cenote, located a short 3 min. drive further south from Cenote Cristal. Less crowded than the other cenotes, and less costly. Bring snorkel and mask, and floats for the kids.
DOS OJOS is spectacular underwater cave system where you can snorkel or dive. Located 15 minutes back north on highway 307. Several packages available. cenotedosojos.com
CENOTE EDEN is a beautiful open cenote on highway 307, just south of Puerto Aventuras opposite Barcelo Hotel. There are 4 separate cenote parks, (Azul, Eden, Cristalino, Kantun Chic) and all are nice, but Eden is our favorite, with a cliff to jump off into the water (or for the brave of heart, jump from the tree hanging over the cliff). There are picnic areas, bathroom, food for sale. Bring mask, snorkel, floats for kids, or rent there.
TULUM ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE is home to the only Mayan ruins set against the backdrop of the beautiful Caribbean ocean. Go early to avoid the crowds and the heat.
COBA ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE is a 45-minute drive away. Coba is sprawling — go early. Walk, rent bicycles, or hire a tricycle taxi! Guided tours available. The jungle has been left uncut, so it has a more authentic feel, and more shade!
SIAN KA'AN WORLD HERITAGE SITE In Maya, Sian Ka'an means "Origin of the Sky". Located on the east coast of the Yucatán peninsula, this biosphere reserve contains tropical forests, mangroves and marshes, as well as a large marine section intersected by a barrier reef. It provides a habitat rich in both marine and terrestrial life, which cohabit in the diverse environment formed by its complex hydrological system. We are fortunate enough to be located just 300 meters away from the entrance of Sian Ka'an. You can drive in on your own, but the best way to see it is by boat. For information on various tours, please go to the last page titled "Tours".
PUNTA LAGUNA MONKEY RESERVE is home to wild spider and howler monkeys that roam free in their natural jungle habitat. Located next to the the archaeological ruins of Coba, many visit both in the same day. For more information: https://puntalagunamx.com/visit and https://www.facebook.com/puntalagunayucatan/
VALLADOLID is a town with a more colonial feel to it, about a 1½ hour drive from Casa Chic, on highway 109 past Coba. The old hotel on the main square serves great traditional Yucatecan cuisine. Afterwards, walk around and shop for handicrafts -- leather sandals and bags, embroidered blouses, silverware, amber (less expensive than in Tulum)!! Or take the opportunity to visit the spectacular cenotes close to the town, or the archeological site Ek Balam.
